Update to the notification system

Hello, I hope you are all well.

I’ve updated my notification process so you can better monitor my portfolio changes in real time especially as relates to my trading activity.

To recap the current notification system is as follows:

  • Any time I start a completely new position or completely exit an existing one, I send an email to ensure you receive a robust notification. For other adjustments, such as trims or additions to current positions, I document those in the Live Updates thread in the Subscriber Chat on Substack and on the Live Updates Channels on Discord.

The above is going to remain in place for any moves or changes related to my Investing accounts plus any trading around a core activity.

However, I feel this is an inefficient process for posting shorter term trades so I have made a change to the notification system which is:

  • I have opened up a channel on my discord called ‘Trading Account Live Updates”. This is where I will document all trades from now on. I will describe in more detail below about the reason for this.

TRADING ACCOUNT:

I have opened a separate taxable trading account which is around 20% the size of my main investing accounts. The rules for this account will follow trading principles: keeping losses small and trading mostly in the direction of the trend. My setups will primarily be Adam and Eve bottoms, pullbacks to support, mean reversion plays, and cheat breakout entries.

I expect my win ratio to be slightly lower (although we are off to a very strong start) in this standalone trading account given I will be employing tighter stops. The goal is to trade higher beta names I am familiar with to achieve account appreciation. In contrast to my main account which holds the bulk of my assets, where I am looking to accumulate assets and let them compound.

Opening a separate channel for trading activity should help both me and you by compartmentalising the two disciplines. I’ve noticed that people sometimes try to swing trade assets I am invested in for the long term, creating a mismatch in horizons, especially since those assets are often not suitable for short-term trading.

When I post in the “Trading Account Live Updates” channel on Discord, I will include my entry, position size, and stop loss (if there is one set, otherwise max loss on a trade is 0.5% of account).

When I communicate position size it will be relative to this account only, trading account is ~20% the size of my investing account. So, a 5% position which I will refer to as “half position” and a 10% position as a “full position” will be much smaller as a % of total assets. I will likely have a maximum of 4 trades open at any one time.

Importantly, I do not trade for the sake of it, so my activity will not have a specific cadence. There could be several trades in a week or none for several weeks; it depends entirely on the setups I see.

TL;DR: The notification process for my Investment Account will stay the same. Any opportunistic trades I take will now be posted exclusively on my Discord. You should already have the link to the Discord or else I will post it at the bottom of this email.

Once in, all you have to do is DM me with your email address on here or Discord DM and I will add you to the Subscriber only channels.

Discord Housekeeping:

Managing your notification settings will significantly improve your Discord experience. You don’t want too many notifications, nor do you want to miss out on important posts.

  • I recommend setting the notification settings for both the “Live Updates” channels to “All Messages”.

  • For all other channels, I would set the notifications to “Only @mentions” so you are not overwhelmed.

In the Subscriber Chat and Questions channel, I will answer all questions asked by 8PM ET the same day (which is 1AM my time). On days of higher volatility (such as deep red days), I will naturally be more active as I know there will be more questions.

As a reminder, when I share what I am doing, it is for full disclosure purposes. It is not meant to be an alerts service sending buy or sell signals. Rather, I share all moves in real time and I do not delete posts in hindsight. I also strongly recommend using stop losses and appropriate position sizing to manage your risk.

Many thanks,

SixSigmaCapital
